Our Staff

Founder

Aparecida C. TeixeiraThe founder of Brazil Station, Inc., Aparecida C. Teixeira, has taught English and Portuguese since 1993. She has graduate-level training from universities in both Brazil and the United States in humanities and marketing, in addition to corporate experience in São Paulo, Brazil. Aparecida is registered as a Language Teacher in the Brazilian Education Ministry and has spent the past two years designing and implementing specialized curricula based on her extensive personal experiences in both countries.

Brazil Station started in 2003 with a backpack full of textbooks and materials. Aparecida was sought out across New York City, meeting students at their workplaces, homes, and local cafes teaching lively Portuguese lessons. She constantly perfected her method of teaching, which is designed to both move students ahead in their studies while leaving room for tailored lessons based on the students' career, interests and hobbies. Her curriculum has since expanded over the years to include over a dozen courses while maintaining the core components of a dynamic, interactive and valuable education.

Director of Education

Sueli CifarelliSueli Cifarelli, our Director of Education, is originally from São Paulo, Brazil. Sueli completed her Bachelor's degree in Pedagogy from the State University of Bahia. After graduating, she worked as a coordinator and a teacher for the Board of Education in the state of Bahia and for several private schools throughout Brazil. She has been teaching since 1994. In the United States, she has taught Portuguese to adult professionals and worked with expat Brazilian parents to teach their children how to read and write in Portuguese through links to Brazilian culture.

At Brazil Station, Sueli ensures our instruction consistently meets high quality standards. To that end, she coordinates teacher training and development, guides class curricula and evaluates teachers, and screens new teachers to ensure they have the proper experience, ability and presentational skills. She also develops special educational initiatives with corporate clients and other institutions as needed.

Teachers

Our teachers are native Brazilians, experienced educators and fully bilingual. Many of our instructors started teaching over ten years ago and all are hired based on their demonstrated ability to generate results by creating a dynamic, engaging and measured learning environment. We rely on our teachers to follow a proven curriculum while tailoring their classes to students' needs and interests. When new teachers start with Brazil Station, we feature them in our monthly e-newsletters. Click here for our Newsletter Archive.

Testimonials

"I began studying Portuguese at Brazil Station just over a year ago prior to my first trip to Brazil and it has been an exciting and enriching adventure. The teachers create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere where you learn not only reading and writing, but more importantly how to communicate and speak in Portuguese 'como as pessoas no Brasil'. The style of the program reflects the rich culture and friendliness of the Brazilian people. I have studied both in group and private instruction and recommend both most highly and without reservation."
